and millions of people of whom it has been said, and sympathetically said, and very often said, that they donot get a full meal twice a day, that their hands are paralysed and frittered, that they are the children and grand children of those very men who were the architects of all the beautiful edifices that we see in India, when we realise these facts and also that in this Council Chamber we have non-official members of India representing the interests of millions, and also official members most of whom are Englishmen representing the traditions, the history and the glorious past of England, then I feel, Sir, that this is a metting, the real significance and far-reaching consequences of which are very great. It is a pity that we do not like to see one another’s weaknesses...
I suppose, Sir, before the Invention of mirrors, before mirrors were introduced into the world, every woman thought she was the prettiest woman in the world, and every man thought he was the most handsome man in the world. Mirrors soon showed them their real features. Consequently, on occasions like these, psychological mirrors are very much needed. Crimination and recrimination will not bring about that co-operation between government and the people.
