ଗବେଷିକା Dr. Alice Boner, "New Light on the Sun Temple of Konarka" ଗ୍ରନ୍ଥର ଭୂମିକାରେ କହିଛନ୍ତି :
"Yet one task of the utmost importance remains for the present generation - an urgent duty towards the great tragedy-stricken temple : the rescue of all the precious pieces of sculptured- stone that now lie strewn in the jungle, where they were mercilessly thrown during the first restoration early in this century. These must at all cost be salvaged as soon as possible to await the happy moment when they may be reintegrated in their proper places on the monuments. The Archaeological Survey of India has made a laudable beginning by building a Museum and collecting under its roof a good number of loose sculptures. But these, being mostly figure-sculptures, cannot be returned to their proper places in the buildings, unless the architectural pieces as at which they belong are first reintegrated.
Such a restoration would be perfectly possible today, at least as far as Mukhasala is concerned. Hundreds of beautifully moulded and carved pieces still existent could, in our opinion, be inserted in to the blank ashlar walls now disfiguring the monument, in to the places where they belong. Thus the original appearance of the monument could to a great extent be restored. It would also be possible, in the opinion of traditional sthapatis in Orissa, to empty the Mukhasala of its stone and rubble-filling, whose pressure now constitutes a serious threat to the outer walls. For this purpose one of the portals should be opened and vertical trenches cut through the thick wall lining in the interior, leaving only parts of it as supporting props for the roof. The Mukhasala and also the Garbhagruha would then become accessible in the normal way. The front portal could even be restored to approximately its original appearance with the Navagraha stone over it and with the arch, of which large pieces are lying in the compound and more might be found, once the jungle were properly combed.
